tines shake to produce patterns of light

Speak, Urchin is an active sculpture that entices its participants with an unusual tactile and auditory experience. Part Koosh-Ball, part Speak-and-Spell, Speak, Urchin melds the familiar territory of sensation and communication with the newness of a friendly creature that speaks in tongues. Speak, Urchin's primary sensory apparatus consists of an abundance of soft force sensing tines that protrude from its body. As these tines are manipulated, the data they generate is captured and subsequently processed into visual and phonemic feedback.
